Director of Data Center Operations:

As the Director of Data Center Operations, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day activities that support data center facilities operations. We are seeking a highly motivated and self-starting leader who will excel in regional project management, client relations, and market development. Efficiency and excellence in leadership, materials management, financial management, customer care, and customer delivery goals are paramount. The director will give guidance to managers on how to meet goals and objectives. This role will evaluate and develop strategies for departmental/organizational success. Directors will oversee the following: 

  • Environmental Health and safety 
  • Security 
  • Finance 
  • Regional operations 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing multiple concurrent projects, meeting deadlines, and ensuring uptime. 
  • Proactively and autonomously collaborating with clients on diverse Data Center Infrastructure projects. 
  • Coordinating and managing the technical, security, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems and operations for our diverse portfolio of wholesale and colocation data center clients. 
  • Empower a culture of safety, security, compliance, and transparency. 
  • Collaborates and coordinates with multiple internal business groups to ensure the successful delivery of service levels. 
  • Initiates and establishes quality standards for teams and manages through to completion. 
  • Direct operations and engineering personnel to ensure compliance with established processes and procedures. 
  • Conduct regular audits of maintenance MOPs and equipment SOPs for quality, accuracy, and adherence to company standards. 
  • Perform periodic audits of site Change Management activities to ensure information accuracy and quality of supporting documentation. 
  • Collect and report operating metrics for sites to track and monitor performance and efficiency. 
  • Coordinate major activities among sites and track outstanding issues to resolution. 
  • Provide input for the development of client improvement solutions, including accurate descriptions, cost estimates, and potential savings. 
  • Manage relationships with customers, and internal teams. 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and at least 5 years of related experience. 
  • Expertise in critical MEP infrastructure operations, including UPS systems, emergency generators, various cooling systems, air handlers, air conditioners, and electrical distribution. 
  • Thorough understanding of infrastructure redundancy configurations and the associated limitations. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of critical environment management and the challenges of multi-tenant data center occupancy. 
  • Excellent internal/external Customer service skills 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills 
  • Experience working in a team environment but comfortable working alone with little direction. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, time management, and planning. 
  • Demonstrated agility to pivot between competing priorities and situations.

  • Strong project management capabilities, including the ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to propose solutions with limited information. 
  • Ability to create compelling presentations and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience developing operating and maintenance standards, as well as project tracking and management documents. 
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and ordinances pertaining to data, communications, and MEP projects. 
  • Capacity to oversee team members for guidance and coaching. 
  • Proven ability to perform well under pressure with a proactive approach. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and willingness to embrace new ideas and procedures. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, for creating presentations and reports. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 40lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs to access elevated equipment
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time in various work environments
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment related tasks
  • Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergency situations and navigate areas quickly
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently withing various work environments to troubleshoot issues or respond to emergencies.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for working with small components and connectors
  • Clear vision, with or without correction, to perform tasks requiring attention to detail and precision while wearing safety glasses
  • Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
  • Ability to work in environments with a wide variety temperature inside a facility
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
  • Capability to work in environments with elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required

Keys to Success:

To excel in this role, you should possess experience in data center facilities operations and a strong understanding of HVAC, electrical systems, large chillers, diesel generators, cooling towers, UPS systems, large batteries, and other related equipment. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you may be interacting with customers. You should be customer-centric, fostering a collaborative partnership and providing guidance and coaching to your team. This full-time position offers a highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and includes business travel as required to meet demands.
