Data Center Maintenance and Staff Manager:

Salute Mission Critical is in search of a Data Center Maintenance & Staff Manager for our Data Center Facility Operations team. Our data centers serve as the critical infrastructure supporting the operational needs of our customers.   

The Data Center Maintenance & Staff Manager leads, mentors, and develops a team of Critical Facility Engineers responsible for all critical infrastructure at a hyperscale data center facility. The individual will drive operational excellence by ensuring a safe, efficient, and customer-focused mission critical data center environment.    

The Data Center Maintenance & Staff Manager will partner and communicate closely with other operations teams, engineering teams, and stakeholders to lead operational and technical excellence of preventative maintenance activities at the data center.  The individual will drive innovation and consistency in the planning, delivery, and resilience of our critical infrastructure to meet the needs of our customers. Strategic thinking, strong technical depth, and proven business acumen are essential in this role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Directly accountable for the supervision and management of Critical Facility Engineers

  • Assign staff appropriately for proper coverage of the Data Center operational requirements  
  • Takes responsibility for overall professional development, career path development plans, professional certifications, and Professional License retention requirements of all Critical Facility Engineers     
  • Takes responsibility for ongoing evaluation of personnel performance, performance improvement plan development, oversight of personnel disciplinary action, and annual performance evaluations of all Critical Facility Engineers
  • Fully embrace Mission Critical Facility Program Methodology (“The Playbook”) and the self-performance philosophy
  • Continually demonstrates leadership by leading Critical Facility Engineers in achieving a Culture of Excellence
  • Continually leads by example, actively participates in ongoing professional development and promotes the same level of engagement
  • Provides direct, on-site, coordination, supervision, of all preventative maintenance activities related to the operations of a data center environment 
  • Accepts direct accountability for the management and operations, preventative maintenance program implementation, and life-cycle management of critical facility assets associated with a data center environment   
  • Manages preventative maintenance schedules for all critical systems  
  • Identifies critical spare parts inventory needs and tracks on-hand supply and usage deployment using the CMMS Platform 
  • Participates in regular updates and an annual refresh of Playbook standard processes and best practices  
  • Ensures maintenance activities are conducted efficiently and with minimal impact on operations
  • ​​Develop staffing plans and resource allocation strategies to support business objectives
  • Conducts regular testing and drills to validate the effectiveness of disaster recovery procedures
  • Maintains accurate documentation of data center infrastructure, including equipment inventory, configurations, and maintenance records

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Unwavering dedication to your team in support of their personal safety, morale, professional development, and operational capabilities
  • Experience mentoring and developing direct reports in a critical environment
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills. Must be able to respond effectively to sensitive issues, complex inquiries, or complaints
  • Demonstrated, working technical knowledge, and understanding of critical data center systems, including HVAC, standby emergency power, uninterruptible power supplies, and associated infrastructure
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent with two years of technical school with an emphasis on mission-critical operations, industrial manufacturing, or relevant military operations experience in electrical and mechanical systems   
  • 3 years of supervisory experience as a Critical Facilities Lead Engineer, Assistant Critical Operations Manager, or other relevant leadership experience within the data center industry
  • 5 years of progressive, hands-on experience in critical, data center operations, maintenance, and engineering within the data center industry
  • Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Has expert knowledge of construction planning, Mechanical, systems, building controls, and Life-Safety Systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building automation & management (BAS / BMS) systems
  • Demonstrates and is technically proficient in planning and scheduling and exhibits excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrates and possesses strong verbal & written communication skills, the ability to lead coordination meetings, and actively facilitate forward progress to achieve scheduled goals
  • Demonstrates and has good people skills, good judgment, and flexibility
  • Able to work cooperatively with internal administration groups, and effectively relate with customers and contractors to reach mutually acceptable terms and conditions 
  • Strong understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), and power metering systems
  • Willingness and desire to achieve all the preferred qualifications below and continue your own professional development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology 
  • Strong electrical and mechanical background in areas including UPS and emergency power systems, chiller plants, cooling towers, and life-safety systems  
  • Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA) or Certified Mission Critical Operator (CMCO)
  • Possesses Mechanical and/or Electrical certifications
  • Familiarity with NFPA standards
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative reasoning skills, with the ability to determine event root causes, performance shortfalls, and required corrective actions
  • Experience with the development, commissioning, and acceptance of mission critical systems
  • Contract management experience  

Travel:

  • Limited travel may be required in this position – typically < than 5% annually

    • Must be willing to submit to a full criminal background check, the results of which may or may not bar employment, following applicable state and federal laws   
    • Must be willing to submit to a drug screen, with which results will be interpreted and applied to an employment eligibility determination following applicable state and federal laws
