The Data Center Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire safety equipment in the data center is operating at peak performance. This involves both planned preventive maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work and emergency response to emerging problems. The Data Center Engineer acts as a technical resource reporting to the Data Center Site Manager and external vendors. Data center equipment that supports critical servers must maintain greater than 99.999% uptime. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, emergency diesel generators, switchboards, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, PDUs, air handling units, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building management systems.

Requirements and Skills:

· Operate, monitor, maintain and respond to abnormal conditions of facility systems

· Perform planned and ad hoc preventive maintenance work requiring the skill and direction of several engineering, mechanical and maintenance trades

· Conduct periodic inspections of building systems, e.g. HVAC, electrical distribution, maintain mechanical equipment rooms to ensure clean and safe conditions

· Rapid response, investigation and management of indoor emergencies and air quality complaints

· Have a complete knowledge of creating, closing and tracking "Work Requests" (WRs). Initiating or responding to work orders, following up and verifying work completion

· Use of customer ticketing systems and relevant processes, e.g. change requests.

· Monitor service contractor performance/defects and recommend changes as needed

· Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

· Work in an on-call rotation outside of normal working hours and be able to respond to on-call incidents

· Write and review operational documents such as SOP, MOP, EOP

· Conduct walks and site checks as needed

· Perform minimal IT/client-related tasks as needed

Qualifications :

· At least 2 years of experience directly related to the operation, installation and maintenance of critical data center equipment, building systems with a thorough technical understanding and knowledge of all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety and control systems

· High school diploma or university diploma or equivalent

· Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including: Conductors, Transformers, Generators, Switchboards, Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems (UPS), ATS/STS UNITS, PDU/PMM, Chillers, Air Handling Units, CRAC Units, and Building Management Systems (BMS)

· Good observation skills and problem-solving ability

· Good verbal and written communication skills in English and German

· Electrical or mechanical qualification

· Ability to draft and review operational documents such as SOP, MOP, EOP
